DUCATI ROY RESPONDS WITH TURBOCHARGED WIN

Promising youngster Ducati Roy produced a strong performance to take out the Division 4 J.G Nelson Cup Final landing his Latrobe trainer Mick Sherriff his first success of the series in Launceston on Monday night.

Lining up for his fifth start in the Grade 6 series, the son of Hard Style Rico and Elsey Gregg was beaten for pace early at box rise but showed great speed in taking the lead with a winning break heading out of the straight.

Making every post a winner, Ducati Roy kept up his authority over the $5,445 decider right throughout the 515-metre trip, coming away to score by 7-1/2 lengths over Fernando Jake and Wynburn Elsa in 29.81s.

Ducati Roy brought up his third career victory and his first around Launceston for the Esplanade Syndicate, showing an immense amount of improvement following his debut last week.

“It was a better effort than his previous start here last week, we just changed a few things around by working on his box manners; he wasn’t the best away but showed great pace,” Mick stated of Ducati Roy’s performance.

“I was glad to see Ducati Roy get this win as young dogs like him thrive on the confidence, it was a great run.”

Sherriff plans to keep a level head with Ducati Roy looking to progress his young chaser through the grades.

“I’m just planning to take Ducati Roy along slowly for now, we are wanting to target some of his grade races before heading towards some nice Tasbred races and other major events later in the year,” said Mick.

The other two division finals were claimed by Ah We’re Tight for trainer Ted Medhurst in the Division 2 J.G Nelson Cup Final and Wynburn Honey triumphant in the Division 3 J.G. Nelson Cup Final for Ben Englund.
